8 March - Inspire Inclusion

February 8, 2024

Celebrating International Women's Day on 8 March can vary significantly depending on culture, organisation and context.

Of course, there are offices and organisations that pay special attention to this day and organise events or activities to celebrate women's contributions in the workplace. However, there are several reasons why this initiative risks becoming less inclusive than we would like:

1. Gender stereotypes: If activities promote or reinforce gender stereotypes, they may contribute to discrimination. For example, organising an event that emphasises only certain traditional female traits or roles could exclude or marginalise female colleagues who do not identify with these stereotypes.

2. Lack of an inclusive approach: If events are designed exclusively for a particular group of women or do not take into account the diversity of experiences and perspectives of women in the organisation, the result is similar. An inclusive approach should reflect diversity and avoid perpetuating patterns of thinking or actions that exclude certain categories of women.

Ladies in business no longer fit exclusively into one typology. In our field we meet strong, empathetic, career-focused, family-focused, or both, people with a wide range of interests. But above all, we work with people every day who are fighting gender stereotypes in their team.

How else can we move towards a culture of diversity and equality in teams, if we do not take into account that March celebrations are also different?

THERE IS GOOD NEWS!

Our proposal this year is to help you build calendars of activities that truly promote diversity in all its forms. That's why we encourage companies to migrate towards an atypical mix of activities that take into account the many facets of the modern woman.
